Structuring Your Program

When you first set up your Program, there are a number of decisions to make, about the structure of the program - payment rates, ad prices, referral commission levels and so on. All these decisions will play important roles in whether your program is a success.
Structuring your PTR program is about planning. As the old saying goes:
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail
A PTR program is a business, and like any business, the essence of making it work is ensuring that your income is at least as much as your expenses (preferably a little more than your expenses). You need to sit down and work out how much it will cost you to run the program, and how you can bring in adequate funds to cover those expenses. A crucial part of that is covering the members' earnings.

Many programs make the mistake of not allowing for paying their members' earnings, on the basis that the money is somehow not a 'real' expense, as it is, in the short term, just a number in the member's account. But the fact remains, that if the program is run well and is honest, those members' earnings will eventually become payable - so you NEED to have the money ready for when that happens. What's more, in most programs, the majority of members have no downline, so while they may not reach the payout level in the short term, but when they do reach it, there will be MANY of them reaching it at roughly the same time, which means you will have a very large, sudden need for cash.

So, let's take a look at the factors you need to consider in determining the structure of your program, in terms of expenses and incomes.

Expenses:

  • Scripts for the site, e.g. Cash Crusader
  • Hosting for the site
  • Advertising for the site
  • Member rewards for reading ads
  • Other member benefits

Incomes:

  • Cash ad sales
  • 'Gold Membership' fees
  • Third party affiliate income
  • Other income sources, if any

In order to make the expenses and incomes balance, there are several contributing factors that you can decide upon, and several others that are less in your control.
